The starting point of Alone Together was the sound of a particular technique of playing the double bass. In fact, the main subject of the piece turned out to be this very sound, also in the sense that the other musical parameters are set up so as not to "get in the way" of it. The second subject of the piece concerns the relationship between the two instruments, the nature of which is hinted at in the work title.
